Ever wish you could strike out for parts unknown, explore remote mountains, or experience the magical wildness of nature…but didn’t quite dare? We can teach you the skills and help you develop the self confidence to safely start your adventures. Imagine, mastering your outdoor explorer skills in a safe and patient environment on a remote 47,000 acre ranch in the mountains of southeastern Arizona!
This Double Circle Ranch program is for female participants only. (Please note that your instructors may include both men and women.) You will spend five days at the ranch with 6-8 like-minded women, learning all the skills you need to safely and confidently explore the woods and trails. Minimum age of 15, please, and minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Topics include:
- Map and compass reading
- GPS use, including how to set and use waypoints
- Wilderness first aid
- Emergency survival
- Fire building
- Wild edibles and medicinals
- Finding or building shelter
- Self defense, both on the ground and on horseback
- Signaling for help
- Dealing with wild animals
- Assembling gear that makes sense
