The antelope reintroduction program in Apache-Sitgreaves forest is a success. More antelope were located here after populations were low and have done well. [...] Twice this week I have seen glimpses of a canine. I am still not sure if there are two wolves of different ages/sizes or just odd-acting coyotes. [...] Coatimundi, or cotamundi, while hunting – throws our hunting friend’s dogs off mountain lion scent. [...] Most people never get a chance to see a free roaming lion in their lifetimes. Doug and I have seen at least 20 in the past 5 years. [...] Twice in 2 weeks a skunk, for reasons known only to it, has wandered onto the porch. Our 4 dogs immediately give chase. [...] This ranch has several Threatened and Endangered Species and listed Species of Concern. We do all we can to promote healthy wildlife populations. It must be working too. [...] |
