Resident Bat on Ceiling We had another visit with Dan Taylor from Bat Conservation International. Hopefully the Double Circle Ranch will be doing a “Water for Wildlife” (including bats) project. Basically, we would be cleaning out and fencing a dirt tank. The fence keeps livestock out of the water so it stays clean for birds, [...] Brown Water in Eagle Creek Well, we were worried that Eagle Creek would get filled with silt after the big Wallow fire – and unfortunately we were right. The creek, usually clear as glass, has run the color of a 10oz cup of coffee with a tablespoon of milk – not quite black, but almost. [...] Fixing Ranch Fence For Antelope We have had the best weekend. The Arizona Antelope Foundation came to the Double Circle Ranch and replaced bottom strands of barb wire with smooth wire on some of our pastures that have lots of antelope traffic. The Arizona Game and Fish Department provided smooth wire, a 4 wheeler, and [...] Summer Monsoons Will Bring Needed Rain to the Ranch July 25. We are still awful dry here at Double Circle Ranch. We have had a total of about ¾” of rain all monsoon so far. But it is supposed to rain today and tomorrow. We have our fingers crossed. Actually the eastern part [...] Double Circle Ranch is happy to have the Arizona Antelope Foundation working on a habitat improvement project fixing barbed-wire [...] I hope we don’t lose a lot of wildlife to this fire. I expect newborns and small animals will fare the worse. The critters are another loss from Wallow Fire. [...] Mexican Gray Wolf Hawks Nest Alpha Female by Jean Ossorio Earlier I posted some of Tom Whetten’s great photos of wolves – but the wolves are not Mexican Gray wolves like are being reintroduced in our area. I believe Tom took these shots in Montana, maybe Wyoming. While I have seen several wolves at Double [...] Elke Duerr Interviews Wilma About Wolves on the Ranch Our new made friend Elke Duerr was here at Double Circle Ranch to get some more footage for her documentary “Stories of Wolves-The Lobo Returns” about the Mexican Gray Wolf recovery. She wanted to interview a rancher who lived in the heart of the Mexican Gray [...] Buzzards have made the old tree a roosting spot. The whole tree fills with buzzards – makes a great photo op!
